About the Guild

History and Purpose

The Guild, orginally know as the Glimmerglass Opera Guild, was formed in 1975 as a volunteer organization to support and promote the Glimmerglass Opera. The Guild operates throughout the year to provide essential volunteer services filling a variety of the Company’s needs including fundraising and education programs. With a membership of well over 200 people, the Guild contributes an average of 3000 volunteer hours annually as well as substantial cash donations. In addition, the Guild funds an administrative intern each season under it’s Doris P. Shields fund.

Current Officers & Committee Chairs

About the Board

Currently the board has nineteen members.  Board members are elected by the Guild membership at the annual meeting for a term of two years, and can be reelected. Some of our board members have served for two years, some for many years. Over three quarters of the board members live in Otsego County, home of the Glimmerglass Festival.  Over half the members have a background in education, ranging from preschool to undergraduate.

The board has several committees. Guild members are welcome to serve on a committee.  if you are interested in doing so, please contact the committee chair.  Names of the chairs are listed in the sidebar under Board.

Guild members are involved in a variety of activities and events all year long to ensure effective support for Glimmerglass Festival’s season each summer.

The many Guild activities include a series of educational and outreach programs in the spring designed to provide members and the public with a greater understanding and appreciation of opera as well insights into each season’s productions.

Several Guild activities center on dinners and other social events that engender fellowship among Guild members and members of the Glimmerglass staff and its artists.

It is easy to become involved with the Guild and its activities. Annual membership for an individual is $30 per year, $50 for a couple or $15 for a student. If you would like to become a member, or renew your existing membership click here.
