About the Guild

Welcome from our President

On behalf of our members, I welcome you to The Guild of the Glimmerglass Festival website. If you are not a member of the Guild, let me share some of the many benefits of membership.

If you love the Glimmerglass Festival and want to participate in activities and programs that help it flourish, the Guild provides many opportunities. Through our educational programs, we enhance the experience of those attending Glimmerglass performances and seek to expand the numbers of people who enjoy the wide variety of programming the Company offers.  As a key part of the Glimmerglass family, each Guild member can provide essential volunteer services filling a variety of the Company’s needs including fundraising, hospitality, and more. Members have the opportunity to work behind the scenes, meet the Glimmerglass performers and staff, and make a genuine difference by supporting this wonderful Festival.

On these pages you will find information about the Guild and the many ways in which Guild members lend their time and talents in support to the Glimmerglass Festival. In visiting this website, current members may discover new opportunities for involvement. If you are not a member, I urge you to explore the rewarding world of volunteering and supporting the Glimmerglass Festival. History and Purpose

The Guild, orginally know as the Glimmerglass Opera Guild,  was formed in 1975 as a volunteer organization to support and promote the Glimmerglass Opera. The Guild operates throughout the year to provide essential volunteer services filling a variety of the Company’s needs including fundraising and education programs. With a membership of well over 200 people, the Guild contributes an average of 3000 volunteer hours annually as well as substantial cash donations. In addition, the Guild funds an administrative intern each season under it’s Doris P. Shields fund.

Current Officers & Committee Chairs

The names of the current officers, committee chairs and Board members are listed in the right-hand column on the home page.

Guild members are involved in a variety of activities and events all year long to ensure effective support for Glimmerglass Festival’s season each summer.

The many Guild activities include a series of educational and outreach programs in the spring designed to provide members and the public with a greater understanding and appreciation of opera as well insights into each season's productions.

Several Guild activities center on dinners and other social events that engender fellowship among Guild members and members of the Glimmerglass staff and its artists.

It is easy to become involved with the Guild and its activities. Annual membership for an individual is $30 per year, $50 for a couple or $15 for a student. If you would like to become a member, or renew your existing membership click here.
