Guild Events & Activities

All in-person guild events have been cancelled for 2020.  We are hoping to resume activities in 2021

Guild Programs

Here is a brief sampling of the kinds of events and activities that the Guild organizes each season and throughout the year. While many of these events are long-standing favorites that have taken place for many years, the Guild is always adding new and exciting events and ideas to our year-round calendar. Talking Opera

Prior to the start of each season’s Glimmerglass Festival, the Guild organizes and presents a series of talks relating to the upcoming productions. These talks, free and open to the public, always offer a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the works being staged as well as a stimulating venue for discussing the multi-faceted world of opera.

Eat & Greet

As the season’s opening approaches, the Guild hosts a potluck dinner for Glimmerglass staff, crews and artists that brings together the entire Glimmerglass Festival community. This event is always a favorite each year.

Opening Night Party

Although we we not able to hold the Opening Night Party this year, in the future we will be holding an event for all cast, crew and orchestra members at the beginning of the season.

Gala Dinner & Silent Auction

One of the favorite events each season is the Gala Dinner and Silent Auction held at the Otesaga Hotel in Cooperstown. Attendees are served a gourmet meal prepared by the hotel’s chefs, and are treated to a musical interlude by members of the Young Artists Program. In the Silent Auction members get to bid on everything from short stay accommodations in cities abroad to many locally donated items.

Changeover Dinners

On days when there are two productions on stage, both a matinee and an evening performance, Guild volunteers prepare and serve dinners to the technical crews involved in changing over the sets, and to members of the Young Artists Program.

Doris P. Shields Administrative Intern

Since 2004, the Guild has supported an administrative intern-in-residence during each Festival season to honor the memory of Doris Shields, a dedicated member of the Guild since its inception. These young professionals gain much valued training and experience and often go on to successful careers in the arts world.
